Transportation Issues

  1. Oh, it's true, I could have used a helpful guide when my son was in his train phase. But I did manage to learn all the parts of a steam engine and the location of every train related place in a 50 mile radius anyway.

  2. Your graphics are great, they make me laugh every time. But I just had to comment on this one. My house does have loads of books about transport, especially trains, thanks to my son, and I have learned the names of different parts of a steam engine. I'm also a master of the characters and plots of the Thomas the Tank Engine series ;-)

  3. Once a Transport geek, always a transport geek. I was at meeting the other day which was nothing to do with autism at all, it was about street theatre and arts, but there was a slide with a picture of a red bus, which the speaker described as a London bus. "No it isn't" I piped up "it is a Midland Red D9"

My companion later upbraided me, saying that I should have shut up and not shown myself up to be an "anorak"

  4. This is a great one! I give it an 8 out of 8.

I just got a new book, "Transport Engineering and Architecture" by Hugh Collis. It's trains and planes and the architecture of railstations and airports and environmental psychology of how people interact with those spaces, and absolutely fascinating! Of course, now I want to start taking photographs of railstations and airports (as well as bridges) ...

  5. This is hilarious! You should make a whole series of these "guides."

  6. You know, under your Rectangular Links, I can't believe that you don't have Piet Mondrian! His "Composition with Red, Yellow and Blue" is one of my faves.

  7. My (very ADHD) husband is a transport guy-----one reason he was so glad to return to New Jersey and New York after living in the Midwest was the lack of public transportation out there. We have many maps, train schedules, metro cards......Charlie and I more than enjoy our travel trips.

  8. One of my interests (perseverations, if you like ;-) is the design and structure of bridges, I particularly love the grace and style of suspension bridges. The last guy I went out with before my present boyfriend was an ex train driver who referred to Isambard Kingdom Brunel as "his god". He said that he was proud of the fact that I was the only woman he knew who knew the difference between a suspension bridge and a cable-stayed bridge, lol.
Your blog really cheers me up. I had to giggle at the graphic of a bus for this post, 'cos it made me think of my late stepfather who was a bus anorak!
